40 Days of Prayer Starts Today - Corey Jackson

Easter often catches us by surprise.  We’re caught up in the busyness of regular life, and before we know it, it’s Holy week and Good Friday.  Today marks forty days until Easter, and I would love for us to enter into a time of prayer together for these next forty days.

To help with this, I have created a devotional for us to pray through together.  This is a simple resource, but I hope that it is also a model that will encourage you in your times with the Lord.

Often, we are intimidated to open God’s Word, and we wonder what we can draw from it.  On one hand, we may immediately turn to commentaries and books, and we try to dig in deep.  On the other hand, we may not dig in at all.

In 40 Days of Prayer, each day follows a simple layout:  First, there is a passage from Scripture, generally 1-2 verses.  Second, there is an encouragement.  Finally, there is a request to pray for yourself or for our church.

My hope is that you will meditate on the scripture, take it to heart through the encouragement, and take time to pray.  You could take as little as one minute doing this every day, or you could take longer.

The Word of God should change our hearts.  Reading God’s Word shouldn't be merely a cognitive exercise!  Yes, we should think about Scripture, but this is a spiritual exercise where we are engaging with God in our hearts.

I hope that God will use 40 Days of Prayer to prepare you personally and to prepare our church corporately to rejoice in Jesus Christ this Easter.
