Summer Reading Book: The Rest of God - Corey Jackson
This summer, I would love for you to consider reading a book along with our church - The Rest of God by Mark Buchanan. This is truly an insightful, inspiring look into what it means to enjoy God, the blessings of our lives, and his creation as we rest.
I read this on my Sabbatical in summer of 2019. A few themes that jumped out to me are the importance of restoring your soul through rest and the opportunity we have every day to enjoy the good gifts the Lord has given us - remembering that they come from him.
Now I know more than ever that I need rest in my life, and this book shares great insight on how to incorporate rhythms of rest - both on Sundays and throughout the week. Buchanan’s writing style contains theological teaching, but he embeds those ideas in storytelling. He also provides some excellent practical examples on how to put sabbath rest into practice at the end of each chapter .
I hope that whatever your summer looks like - whether you stay near or go far - you will have moments of rest and joy in the Lord. I’m praying that God would restore our souls this summer, starting with our relationship with him and then spilling over into all of our relationships and other areas of life.
